It?s one thing to offer enablement and technical training, but it?s another completely to offer serious education. Dell Inc. is taking that extra step for its partner community with?a new set of certifications built around its SonicWALL portfolio. Dell is confident with its direction, too, since ?100 percent of [its] beta students,? would recommend the course.
Gratuitous figures aside, Dell sees a curriculum-based approach to SonicWALL as a key way to develop a base of proficient and competent security professionals.
The Round Rock, Texas-based vendor has previously offered classes based around SonicWALL?s unified threat management and next-gen firewall platforms, but today, Dell is introducing a more encompassing approach with the ?Network Security Advanced Administration? (NSAA) class, the official prerequisite for Dell?s ?new level of technology certification,? aptly named the ?Certified SonicWALL Security Professional? (CSSP). (Prospective students should know that the?Certified SonicWALL System Administrator credential is a prerequisite for the CSSP.)
Dell?s educational endeavors are supported through a partnership with Dell?s existing authorized training partners and through Global Knowledge, a company which specializes in IT education, certification training and examination.
The NSSA class is a two-day event. Partners and IT admins will learn:
- Nuanced insight into the SonicOS firmware
- Application intelligence and control features
- Bandwidth?management capabilities
- Scaling, reliability and security practices
- Proficiency across SonicWALL next-gen firewall capabilities
The two-day class will also provide attendees hands-on time with the SonicWALL NSA 220 appliance, which will require ?knowledge checks? on the troubleshooting and successful design (and optimization) of a SonicWALL implementation. Official certification, however, is dependent on passing the final exam. And while the class and exam have been billed as ?challenging,? the course is instructor-lead, which should help ?reinforce key concepts.?
At a time when technology is outpacing those who know how it use it, this is a incredibly smart move for Dell , especially since education is not often prioritized. But smarter, still ? Dell has chosen to focus on the security space, an area of continual growth, nearly?exponentially?alongside cloud technology. With many organizations looking to establish a security baseline before establishing a full-blown cloud, Dell can effectively deliver a one-two punch in the data center, giving?Dell?s educated professionals and partners a considerable advantage in attacking this fast-growing market.
