Corsair?s military inspired case has become very popular since we did the very first review of it, HERE? We?ve created a guide in making your own ?clear view? window.
The Corsair Vengeance c70 with factory window installed.
Some c70 owners have noted that the view is partially obstructed by the grill perforations.
It?s very easy to dismantle the c70 window from the side panel. Save the 16x factory Black window trim screws! You will be using them to re-install your custom window. Note the 4x individual Black window trim pieces are installed in specific locations.
I traced around the c70 factory window dimensions onto a sheet of 24? x 24? sheet of 1/8? thick, Clear, ?Cast Acrylic?. You can also use Plexiglass, which can be found at Home Depot or Lowes Home Improvement Store, in their Window section. I prefer the clarity and durability of ?Cast Acrylic? which you can order online at Tap Plastics
I?m using a Vertical Saw to cut the new window, but you can also use Table Saw or Jigsaw with 18 TPI bi-metal cutting blade. ?bi-metal? blades are made for cutting plastic or metal.
fyi: Going on 6 years ownership of my 14? Grizzly Vertical saw w/o a hitch.. You can use 1/8? x .025 bi-metal blade for cutting acrylic and metal sheets.
This step is optional! I Rounded corners in the window sheet with Hand file, but you don?t have to, the rounded corners are not visible outside of the case.
I suggest using a Plas-Drill? 1/4? drill bit to make insert holes for the mounting pegs on the 4 individual Black window trim pieces. You can use a normal drill bit, but you risk cracking the window, especially if you use Plexiglass instead of ?Cast Acrylic.? The Plas-Drill bits are best drill bits for plastics are spur-point bits, also known as dowel bits. They are specifically angled to make smooth cuts in the material. A spur-point bit has a central point and spurs that keep the bit aligned, maintaining a clean, neat hole.
Align and place the side panel over your new window, make sure it centered! and trace the hole locations for the Black window trim mounting peg holes.
Using Plas-Drill? 1/4? drill bit made for Plastic to make the 16x mounting holes.
Our new window is placed on backside of the panel in this photo, to show you how your mounting holes should look.
Reinstall the 4, Black window trim pieces into the panel in their original location. The pegs on the trim piece protrude through the panel and into your new window, (after removing the paper backing on your acrylic sheet).
Remove the paper backing, then install your new window. The pegs on the Black trim should protrude through.
Use the 16x factory Black mounting screws to re-install your new window. You will need to find spacers or washers that equal 3/16? thickness. You can buy spacers or washers from Hardware or Home Improvement stores. I chose to use these fan grommets as spacers, to mount the acrylic sheet.
